CHENNAI: TVK president Vijay, launched his campaign at Perambur on Monday, making an emotional appeal to vote for him in the elections, shortly after filing his nomination declaring assets worth about Rs 624 crore. Vijay said he was continuing his political journey, bearing a lot of pain, to show his gratitude to the people.Sharpening the attack on chief minister M K Stalin, he said the alleged rise in crime has left people feeling unsafe, particularly women and children. “For five years, Stalin sir was in control of the police department. If basic safety cannot be ensured, what is the purpose of this govt and administration,” Vijay asked.“Stalin sir does not care about safety or people’s welfare. For him and DMK, looting for their families was the only priority in the past five years,” he said, citing alleged irregularities in Tasmac and the cash-for-job scam linked to the municipal administration department. He then campaigned at Kolathur. Though he was scheduled to campaign at Villivakkam, he cancelled it citing inadequate police deployment and security arrangements.Vijay’s poll affidavit declared that he had Rs404 crore in movable assets, including cash, investments and gold.
