Hassan: Deputy commissioner KS Latha Kumari has instructed officials to take precautionary measures to prevent potential disasters due to rain in the district. The officer addressed the officials during a District Disaster Management Authority meeting at the DC office.She directed officials to review and take necessary steps to prevent farmer suicides and to provide immediate relief. She also instructed the submission of separate reports on snake bites and accidental deaths and directed measures for relief distribution. Officials were asked to assess and report on the damage to agriculture and horticulture crops caused by rain. She also instructed them to provide relief in cases of accidental death of livestock.To handle emergencies, she directed the fire department to request govt approval for purchasing necessary vehicles. In urban areas, officials were instructed to ensure the cleanliness of drains and stormwater channels to facilitate smooth water flow during rain. The officials were also directed to prepare a separate list of lakes, ponds, and large irrigation projects, and to focus on city cleanliness to prevent water stagnation, as well as to take measures to prevent littering on plastic roads.The IAS officer advised identifying and taking necessary actions regarding electric poles and wires that might fall due to rainstorms. They were also asked to monitor unauthorised electricity connections from poles and take precautions to prevent accidents. District health and family welfare officers were instructed to focus on preventing communicable diseases that may spread during the rainy season and to raise awareness among the public.Additional deputy commissioner KT Shanthala, additional superintendent of police Thammaiah and officials from departments attended the meeting.
