Daltonganj: At a time when govt health facilities across Palamu district are struggling to cope with shortages of human resource personnel, a 30-bed community health centre (CHC) was on Wednesday found operating with 30 auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) during an inspection. Civil surgeon Dr. Anil Kumar Srivastav visited the CHC in Bishrampur, located 35 km from here, and found that the facility had a surplus of ANMs. District health officials said there are fixed ratios of ANMs in a health facility and depends on factors like the percentage of the occupancy of the beds. Many health hubs in remote Palamu have just one or two ANMs. “We have primary health centres and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs where there is a chronic shortage of the ANMs. I have directed the medical officer in charge of the Bishrampur CHC to find out seats of the ANMs vacant under the territorial jurisdiction of this centre. The surplus ANMs will be deputed,” he added.
