Dibrugarh: In a high-octane display of political strength, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday evening brought Dibrugarh to a standstill, leading a roadshow to bolster support for BJP candidate and veteran leader Prasanta Phukan. The event, marked by a sea of saffron flags and rhythmic chanting, served as a morale booster for the party’s campaign in upper Assam. The roadshow commenced from near the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation office at AT Road, with the CM standing atop a specially decorated vehicle alongside Phukan, who is a four-time MLA and the state’s power minister. As the convoy snaked through the heart of the city — passing through Red Cross Road, KC Gogoi Road, and the bustling Thana Chariali — thousands of supporters and residents lined the streets to catch a glimpse of Sarma. The energy reached a crescendo at the RKB Road, where the roadshow concluded. Throughout the route, the CM was seen waving to the crowds, and occasionally stopping to accept traditional ‘gamosas’ from enthusiastic locals.Addressing the media briefly during the march, Sarma highlighted the ‘unbreakable bond’ between Dibrugarh and BJP. He credited Phukan’s decades-long service for the transformation of the constituency.“The ocean of people I see on the streets of Dibrugarh today is a clear message that the journey of development will continue. Under our govt, Assam has moved forward on every front and Dibrugarh has been a proud part of that journey. With the blessings of the people, we are heading towards a historic win that will ensure Dibrugarh remains at the forefront of Assam’s growth story,” he said. The CM also sought to frame the election as a referendum on BJP govt’s record, pointing to the party’s development agenda and the momentum of the double-engine govt under PM Narendra Modi at the Centre and his administration in the state.
