Mangaluru: After a considerable gap, ‘MV New Legacy’ carrying bagged sugar for export called at New Mangalore Port, marking the resumption of bagged sugar export operations. The vessel, loaded with 25,000 metric tonnes of Indian refined white sugar, arrived and berthed at the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) on April 9.Port officials said the vessel’s call signified a revival of bagged sugar exports at the port. MV New Legacy had last called at NMPA on Oct 6, 2025. To mark the occasion, the traffic manager, NMPA, along with his team, welcomed the vessel and presented a memento to the master.In another development, JSW Mangalore Coal Terminal Pvt Ltd recorded its highest-ever single-day coal dispatch on April 7. A total of 38,472 MT of coal was dispatched through 652 trucks and five rail rakes, surpassing the earlier record of 34,639 MT recorded on Feb 23.The terminal also set a new benchmark for truck dispatch with 18,840 MT, exceeding the previous record of 17,620 MT achieved on March 5. Rail dispatch touched 19,631 MT, improving upon the earlier best of 19,469 MT recorded on Feb 23 this year.Separately, in line with the ministry of ports, shipping and waterways’ directive to establish affordable medicines and reliable Implants for treatment (AMRIT) pharmacies in public health facilities, NMPA recently signed a memorandum of understanding with HLL Lifecare Limited to set up an AMRIT Pharmacy at the port. The initiative aims to provide affordable and quality medicines, implants and healthcare products.Dr Surekha Hoskeri, chief medical officer, NMPA, along with senior officials of NMPA and HLL Lifecare Limited, were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
