Patna: The sugar cane industries department has reserved sugar cane from 2,401 villages in Darbhanga and Madhubani districts for the proposed revival of the Sakri and Raiyam sugar mills, an official said on Friday.Farmers from 1,018 villages would supply sugarcane to the Raiyam sugar mill located in Darbhanga, and farmers from 1,383 villages would supply sugarcane to the Sakri sugar mill in Madhubani. The step was taken to ensure an adequate supply of sugarcane to both the mills, he said.Both closed sugar mills would be revived and operated by the state’s cooperative department, he said.“Farmers from 686 villages in Madhubani and 697 villages in Darbhanga were suggested to supply their sugarcane to the Sakri mill. Similarly, farmers from 438 villages in Madhubani and 580 villages in Darbhanga would supply sugarcane to the Raiyam mill,” the official said.
