Patna: With the results of the Class XII examinations conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) likely to be published next week, and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) also expected to complete their Class XII examinations soon, talented boys and girls across the state are actively exploring better career options. In fact, a rush has already begun for admission to undergraduate courses in several reputed institutions in the city.All the premier institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna, the Indian Institute of Hotel Management and the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), have already announced their admission schedules for the next academic session commencing in July.Founded in 2008, IIT-Patna offers BTech courses in different specialisations. All these courses are of four years’ duration. For admission to BTech courses, aspirants have to appear in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main). Final selection will be made on the basis of the JEE (Advanced) results followed by centralised counselling. The JEE Main second session will be held in April, said IIT Patna senior faculty Kripa Shankar Singh.The National Institute of Technology, Patna (NIT Patna), was established in 2004 by the govt of India. The institute is organised into six engineering departments and one architecture department, along with separate departments for physics, chemistry and mathematics. Admission to BTech and BArch programmes is made on the basis of marks obtained in the JEE Main and the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), respectively.The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna (AIIMS Patna), was established in 2012. Admission to the bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS) course in the institute is made through the national-level entrance examination, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG). The NEET-UG examination is scheduled to be held in May and its results are likely to be published in the second or third week of June.Founded in 2006, the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) will admit 138 students to its five-year bachelor of arts and bachelor of laws (BA LLB honours) and bachelor of business administration and bachelor of laws (BBA LLB honours) courses on the basis of the results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), which were declared on Dec 16 last year. The minimum qualification for admission to these courses is plus two, said CNLU registrar S P Singh.Established in 2008, the NIFT Patna offers four-year courses in bachelor of design (BDes) and bachelor of fashion technology (BFTech), besides a one-year certificate course in fashion and clothing technology to students admitted through a national-level entrance test followed by group discussion and personal interview. There are altogether 170 seats in different academic programmes, including fashion design, accessory design, textile design, fashion communication and apparel production. The first round of the joint entrance test was held in Feb and the final results are expected to be published in May, said NIFT senior faculty Vinayak Yashraj.The Institute of Hotel Management, an autonomous institution under the ministry of tourism, govt of India, has been functioning since 1998. Affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), it awards three-year bachelor’s degrees in hospitality and hotel administration. The last date for submission of online applications for admission to the course through an entrance test is March 25. The examination is likely to be held next month. There are altogether 285 seats for admission to the institute.
