Hyderabad: With growing needs for an efficient public transport system in the core urban region economy (CURE), chief minister A Revanth Reddy has asked officials to come up with plans to strengthen Multi Modal Transport Service (MMTS) services in the city. He sought to know the reasons for the dwindling passengers for MMTS services in the city, especially in recent years.During a review meeting on MMTS services at the council meeting hall on Thursday, the CM said MMTS services frequency should be increased during peak hours, along with maintaining punctuality. As of now, the MMTS services were limited to certain stretches like Secunderabad to Nampally, Secunderabad to Lingampally and Secunderabad to Falaknuma. The railways had reduced the number of services since Covid-19. As the MMTS trains do not maintain punctuality, passengers were preferring Metro services over MMTS, officials reportedly informed him. When the authorities brought to the notice of the CM that there was a lack of direct RTC bus connectivity to MMTS stations, which were situated away from main roads, the CM directed them to explore the feasibility of operating mini-buses to facilitate seamless last-mile connectivity for commuters. He also instructed the officials to provide necessary amenities for passengers at all MMTS stations. Commuters would definitely opt for MMTS services only when good amenities were provided, the CM said.Reviewing the revenue generation from MMTS services, Revanth Reddy suggested the enhancement of self-generated revenue sources. The authorities were asked to conduct a study and submit a report on the increase of passengers and improve amenities alongside strengthening last-mile connectivity.
