T’puram: Mannanthala police on Wednesday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a disabled minor girl.The accused is the stepfather of the minor girl. He was taken into custody from his native place in Karakulam. Police said he is accused of repeatedly assaulting the minor when no one else was at home. The incident came to light after the girl began showing signs of severe emotional distress and depression. The minor girl revealed the incident to her family following counselling sessions. Following this, a formal complaint was lodged, prompting police to register a case and launch an investigation. Acting swiftly, officials arrested the accused from his residence. Police officials said the accused is also involved in separate cases registered under Pocso Act at Fort and Pothencode police stations. Police said further probe is under way. Police added that support mechanisms are being extended to the girl, and the case is being handled with due sensitivity, following legal procedures. The accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. TNN
