Patna: A Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan was arrested in Kishanganj on Sunday on charge of allegedly raping the 14-year-old daughter of his colleague. The accused has been identified as 35-year-old Manchan Pawar, a head constable posted with the 19th Battalion of SSB.Police said the incident occurred on Saturday evening when the victim’s father was on duty and the girl was alone at home. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly entered the house and committed the crime before fleeing. He was later arrested from a rented accommodation, where he was hiding.Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Manglesh Kumar Singh said a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. “No negligence will be tolerated in such cases. The police are taking all possible steps to ensure the strictest punishment for the guilty,” he said.Following his arrest, the accused was sent to judicial custody on Sunday and lodged in Kishanganj jail. The rape survivor’s medical examination has been conducted and her statement recorded, Singh added.Police sources said all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated, including the accused’s activities at the time of the incident and the possible involvement of others. An internal inquiry has also been initiated at the SSB’s battalion level.
