Hyderabad: Telangana has strengthened its role in advanced healthcare manufacturing with the launch of drug-resistant tuberculosis diagnostic kits produced in Genome Valley, industries and IT minister D Sridhar Babu said on Tuesday.The ‘Made in Telangana’ kits, which were unveiled on Tuesday by the minister, are being manufactured by French diagnostics company bioMérieux at its Genome Valley facility that was set up at an investment of Rs 50 crore in phase 1 with employment for around 100 people.The company has also announced plans to set up a research and development laboratory at the Genome Valley site in the near future.Unveiling the kits, the minister said drug-resistant TB has become a serious public health challenge as it does not respond to standard treatment, and early diagnosis and timely medical intervention are key to saving lives and curbing transmission.Also present on the occasion were Marc Lamy, Consul General of France in Bengaluru, Charles Mahy from the French Embassy, bioMérieux executive chairman Alexandre Mérieux, and Telangana Lifesciences director designate Sarvesh Singh.The Euro 4 billion French company, which was set up in 1963, operates in more than 160 countries.On the occasion, the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) also presented a report on bilateral trade relations between India and France to Sridhar Babu. The report highlights the growing role of French companies in Telangana’s development and economic growth.
