Jaipur: Chaos erupted near Udyog Bhawan Cut Monday after a speeding pickup truck lost control while descending from the elevated road and crashed into nearly eight vehicles waiting at a red light and injuring one person.According to accident (south) police, the pickup truck was coming from the Sodala side and was loaded with grey granite stones. “As it came down from the elevated stretch, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and the driver appeared to lose control. The pickup then rammed into cars standing across two lanes and also struck an autorickshaw with considerable force,” said a police officer. The accident took place around 6.15 pm, causing panic among commuters at the busy intersection, and it also caused a traffic jam for around two hours. Despite the intensity of the collision, no serious injuries were reported among drivers or pedestrians. However, multiple vehicles suffered damage to their front and rear portions. An auto rickshaw driver sustained a minor injury and was discharged from SMS Hospital after first aid.The impact led to heavy congestion in the area for some time, with traffic coming to a standstill. Traffic police and accident (south) police officials reached the spot and worked to clear the damaged vehicles, restoring normal movement after the disruption. “The traffic was cleared around 8 pm,” said an officer.Preliminary investigations indicate that over-speeding, possible over-loading, or brake failure may have been key factors behind the incident.Police have detained the driver for questioning and initiated a technical inspection of the vehicle, including an examination of its braking system, to determine whether brake failure or mechanical defects contributed to the crash.
