Hyderabad: A 28-year-old speech-impaired and person with learning difficulties was allegedly raped by her neighbour at her home in the city on Saturday. Based on the complaint lodged by the survivor’s family, Attapur police have arrested a 35-year-old daily-wage labourer within 48 hours of the assault. Police said that the accused was also a relative of the survivor.On Saturday morning, the woman’s father and her elder brother went out for work. Her sister-in-law also went to a local bank. Realising that the she was alone, the accused entered the house. He gagged the woman, and violated her. Around 11.10 am, the survivor’s sister-in-law returned home and found her naked. The accused was also present there, and he hurriedly put on his clothes while attempting to flee.The sister-in-law immediately raised an alarm and tried to intercept the accused. According to police, the accused managed to escape from the spot.“The survivor, who is speech-impaired with physical disability, described the assault to her sister-in-law through signs and gestures,” deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Rajendranagar, S Sreenivas said.Based on the sister-in-law’s complaint, a case was registered under Section 64(2)(f)(k) (Rape by a relative or guardian on a person with disability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police arrested the accused on Monday in Attapur. The survivor has been sent for medical examination, and the accused would be produced before the court.
