Jhunjhunu: A special needs child who was abandoned as an infant at a cradle home in Jhunjhunu has found a new family seas away in Italy. The journey from abandonment to love reached its crescendo Wednesday when an Italian couple finalised the adoption. This child, who was discovered at the cradle home of the district’s BDK Govt Hospital, faced monumental challenges from the very start. Born prematurely and afflicted with a serious heart condition known as a congenital heart defect, his life began with uncertainty and struggle. For the first month, he received critical treatment in the hospital, followed by specialised care in Jaipur. Eventually, he was transferred to the Govt Shishu Grih (child home) in Jhunjhunu, which became a sanctuary, ensuring not just shelter, but also nourishment, vaccinations, and consistent medical attention. At the Shishu Grih, the child thrived under the care of a compassionate staff who kept a watchful eye on his health and well-being. It was here that hope was rekindled, and the foundation for a brighter future was laid. The child’s life took a turn when Daniele Fratini and his wife, Margherita—who reside in Florence, Tuscany—made the decision to adopt him. Their journey towards adoption had been underway for the past 3-4 months through the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). After navigating the legal processes, the moment finally arrived when they held their new son for the first time, filling the air with palpable joy and emotion. Daniele, who works as an Imaging Service Assistant at an institution of Harvard University, expressed their eagerness in becoming parents. He fondly recalled meeting Margherita in 2013 and their subsequent marriage in 2017. “Receiving our child is a very special moment for us,” Daniele said. “We’ve been waiting for adoption for many years, and now we feel our family is complete. We promise to raise him with immense love and to share his beautiful journey with him.” What makes this story even more poignant is Margherita’s own background—she herself was adopted from Kolkata years ago. With an adopted mother who understands the intricacies of love beyond biology, the child is sure to be enveloped in a nurturing environment. Jamal Mursheed, a representative of the Italian agency collaborating with CARA, shared insights into the adoption process, explaining that each application is rigorously examined to ensure the best possible matches for special needs children. He expressed his own joy over the adoption process, saying, “This is a very emotional moment, and the family is extremely happy.” As the final paperwork was signed and the child prepared for his journey to Italy, the superintendent of the Jhunjhunu Shishu Grih, Ankit Kumar, confirmed that the adoption had followed all due processes, ensuring the child’s well-being every step of the way.
