Lucknow: UP govt on Saturday removed Deoria SP Sanjeev Suman following a controversy over a dispute related to road construction on a drainage (chak nali) in Lakshmipur village of the district. Barhaj in Deoria. He has been attached to DGP headquarters.Earlier, SDM Vipin Dwivedi was suspended in connection with the same incident. indicating serious administrative concern over the handling of the case.The dispute escalated during the construction work, leading to heightened tensions in the village. Amid the tension, a lawyer reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack. Subsequently, an FIR under murder charges was registered against the village pradhan and his associates.Officials said the action against Suman was taken due to the alleged lack of prompt and effective action in the matter.Suman had earlier served as SSP Aligarh after his transfer in Sept 2025 and was later posted to Deoria. Known for his tough policing style, he had previously served as DCP East in Lucknow and was part of the police team involved in the encounter of hardened criminal Girdhari Singh.SP Ambedkarnagar Abhijit Shankar has been appointed as the new SP Deoria. Prachi Singh, Commandant of the 32nd Battalion PAC, has been posted as SP Ambedkarnagar.
