Chennai: Southern Railway‘s passenger traffic for 2025-26 touched a record high of 7.67 lakh — a 4.9% jump from 7.31 lakh in the last year — and ticket-checking revenue reached 160.75 crore, a 30.93% increase from the previous year’s figure of 129.82 crore.In a release, Southern Railway said that apart from running special trains, measures such as augmenting general second-class coaches with 294 more coaches (ICF and LHB) across 198 trains contributed to the overall growth.Importantly, a total loading of 42.113 million tonnes (MT) was recorded in 2025-26, achieving a 1.1% year-on-year growth over the previous year’s 41.670 MT. Freight revenue stood at 3,841.11 crore, surpassing the target of 3,825.83 crore, it added. Southern Railway further said its parcel segment attained 168.64 crore in revenue; catering, 128.12 crore; and parking, 81.5 crore.
