Senior IRSME (Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers) officer from the 1989 batch, P Ananth, Thursday assumed charge as the general manager of South Western Railway (SWR). He was serving as additional general manager of SWR before taking up the new role.He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and has served in the railways in various capacities, including director (manpower planning) at the Railway Board, Chief Mechanical Engineer at Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), and general manager (Coach Maintenance Management System) at the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), New Delhi. He has also served as Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Madurai Division of Southern Railway.
