Bengaluru: In a bid to curb submission of fake academic and reservation certificates by guest faculty members, the department of collegiate education issued standard operating procedure to govt first-grade colleges across Karnataka. The move comes in the wake of allegations that several guest lecturers submitted fake postgraduate (PG), MPhil, PhD, National Eligibility Test (NET), Karnataka State Eligibility Test (K-SET) and Kalyana Karnataka reservation certificates to secure appointments.
Under the new SOP, every govt college has been directed to constitute a ‘certificate verification committee’ to thoroughly examine authenticity of documents submitted by guest faculty members. As per the guidelines, college principals must ensure postgraduate degrees are issued by varsities recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC). In cases where certificates are found to be fake, the documents must be uploaded on Education Management Information System (EMIS) portal, and the faculty member concerned must be terminated immediately.
