Sony PS5 Pro has been in the market for a while but its India launch has been delayed for a big reason which might be clearing up now.
Could Sony finally bring its 2-year-old PS5 Pro model to India?
Sony PlayStation 5 Pro launch in India has been delayed but we could finally see some glimmer of hope for the latest gaming console in the country. According to tipster Arjun Campbell, via a post on X, the Sony PS5 Pro console has made its way to India’s BIS registration website which hints at imminent debut for the model in the country.
Most gamers have been eagerly waiting for the brand to announce its PS5 Pro launch plans in India, and how much it would pinch their pockets. And the wait could be finally over with Sony likely to have more details for the fan boys in the new weeks or months.
Sony PS5 Pro India Launch Delays: What’s Been The Issue?
So why did Sony decide against launching the PS5 Pro console in India? It seems the new model has some hardware features that are not available/allowed in the country by the government. Back in November 2024, a statement from Sony quoted in multiple reports said, “PS5 Pro will not be available in some countries (which presently includes India) where 6GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) has not yet been allowed.”
Many of you might be wondering why a base Wi-Fi standard has delayed a big launch in the country. We have previously seen brands decide against launching a product for similar reasons.
Many years back, Google said the Pixel 4 will not launch in India because it has a Soli sensor that was not getting the approvals from the regulatory bodies in the country. The update regarding the PS5 Pro launch in India could be linked to the recent change to the 6GHz wireless band and who can use it in the country.
Sony PS5 Pro Launch Specs And Expected Price
The PS5 Pro includes a few hardware advancements over the PS5, with the device boasting faster framerates and higher resolution. It is equipped with the same AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU as the original PS5, but with better RDNA graphics. The PS5 Pro comes with 16GB of GDDR6 and an additional 2GB of DDR5 RAM for system tasks. Additionally, it packs a 2TB custom SSD, doubling the storage space of the standard PS5.
We are eager to see how Sony plans to launch the PS5 Pro in India and price it in the country, which many assume will be over Rs 70,000 if you consider how much it costs to buy the regular PS5 console.
