Ludhiana: An Army soldier, hailing from a village near Machhiwara Sahib, died in a road accident while on duty in Jaisalmer on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Salana Bet village, who was serving as Battalion Havildar Major (BHM) in a Field Regiment of the Indian Army.Sources said Rajwinder Singh was posted in Jaisalmer and was performing his official duties when he met with a road accident on March 6, leading to his death. They added that Army officials informed the family about the incident on Friday morning, after which grief spread in the household and the village.
As per villagers, Rajwinder had been serving in the Army for the past 19 years. They added that his father had passed away earlier and he is survived by his wife, two young sons and an elderly mother.A villager said that the soldier’s mortal remains were expected to reach his native village on March 8, where his last rites will be performed with full state honours.tnn
