Gurgaon: GMDA is working on a plan to decongest a busy intersection near Unitech Cyber Park on Netaji Subhash Marg. The key junction, which connects Millennium City Centre with Subhash Chowk, is in for a overhaul. The junction — which also links Jharsa and Sector 45 — is a pressure point for traffic due to the presence of multiple IT parks and office complexes in the vicinity. Commuters frequently face long queues, especially during peak office hours, as vehicles from several directions converge at the signalised intersection. The situation has further aggravated in recent months with ongoing metro construction reducing the effective carriageway space. The project is estimated to cost GMDA Rs 1.5 crore and the tender is expected to be floated soon.Under the proposal, the metropolitan authority plans to introduce slip lanes for free left turns, redesign ingress and egress points and strengthen pedestrian infrastructure by improving footpath connectivity around the junction. The focus will also be on better traffic channelisation and circulation management to ensure smoother vehicular movement, officials said.“We are working on improving traffic flow at the Cyber Park intersection, which sees congestion owing to high office traffic. The idea is to streamline movement through better channelisation. We will also enhance footpath connectivity to ensure safer and more convenient movement for pedestrians in and around the junction,” a senior GMDA official said.Officials said the aim is to ease movement at the junction by reducing unnecessary stoppages and improving how traffic merges and disperses. Better-designed ingress and egress points are expected to cut down delays caused by vehicles attempting to enter or exit the main carriageway. The intersection, located between major office hubs and residential sectors, handles traffic from multiple directions, including Jharsa, Sector 45 and the Millennium City Centre side. The official said that improving this junction is critical to ensuring smoother traffic flow along the entire Netaji Subhash Marg.“This is one of the key junctions on this stretch. While a flyover is already operational at Subhash Chowk and a grade separator has been proposed at Bakhtawar Chowk, we have now taken up the improvement of the Cyber Park intersection. This will help streamline traffic movement across the corridor,” the official added. While residents welcomed the decision, they said the proposed measure may offer only partial relief and more long-term intervention would be needed to tackle the congestion.“This intersection is heavily congested throughout the day. Signal timings are short and vehicles heading towards Subhash Chowk or Sector 45 often have to wait through multiple cycles. The problem has intensified due to metro construction, which has reduced road space. Autos and other vehicles frequently occupy the cycling track, further worsening the situation,” said general secretary of Sector 45 Puneet Pahwa. .“With traffic approaching from multiple sides, the junction has become a major bottleneck. Slip lanes may provide some relief, but considering the volume of traffic, a grade separator like an underpass is ultimately needed for seamless movement,” Pahwa added.
