Patna: Among the eight people who died in a devastating fire that broke out at a three-storey residential building at Brijeshwari Annex near Bengali Square in Indore early on Wednesday, six were from Kishanganj district. Three people were also injured in the incident.Vijay Sethia (65), who is into cosmetic business, went to Indore with his family to his brother-in-law’s house, people close to his family in Kishanganj said. Vijay had gone to Indore for his cancer treatment along with other family members, they said. Vijay, along with his wife Suman Sethia (60), nephew Chotu Sethia (22), daughter Tinu (35) and two grandchildren, including a 12-year-old granddaughter and a seven-year-old grandson, died in the fire.Kishanganj-based businessman and family friend of Vijay’s family Manish Daftari said, “Following the incident, the entire area is in deep shock and grief. It is so painful to think about the tragic demise of all family members. We wonder how they could not open the door, which had an electronic lock system.”Manish said the fire broke out from a short circuit in an electric vehicle which was kept on charge in the night. “There were several cylinders stored in the house which exploded and soon fire engulfed the entire house. Those who were on the top floor could save themselves by jumping on the neighbour’s terrace. However, others got trapped. We also got to know that they could not come out as the door had an electronic lock system.”Manish further said Vijay’s immediate family members left for Indore. “As per the members of our community, the last rites will be performed without any delay as the bodies were not in a condition to be kept. Only bones are left,” he said.Apart from six from Kishanganj, two deceased who were Vijay’s relatives include Manoj Pugalia, his brother-in-law and owner of the house, and his daughter-in-law Simran, who is said to be four months pregnant.
