Vadodara: The crime branch on Feb 15 busted a gang that allegedly targeted women during a religious procession in the city and arrested six persons, including a woman, from Warasia Ring Road following a tip-off.Police said the accused, residents of Banaskantha and Kheda districts, had come to the city with the intention of committing thefts during the Shivji Ki Savari procession, which draws a large crowd every year. “The gang mingled with the crowd and used a cutter to steal a gold chain from a woman,” police said.
The stolen gold chain, valued at Rs 1.40 lakh, was recovered. Five mobile phones were also seized from the accused, identified as Sagar Parmar, Badal Koli, Suraj Dabhi, Sukhdev Koli, Nidiya Parmar and Babita Koli.Police said Nidiya had been arrested twice earlier in theft cases in Jamnagar and Surat, while Sagar has previous cases of gambling and theft registered against him in Palanpur. Babita has theft cases registered in Morbi, and Badal and Sukhdev also have theft offences registered in Palanpur.
