Ahmedabad: A brother and sister allegedly attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on a public road in the Gomtipur area on Tuesday, claiming harassment by neighbours and inaction by the police to take action despite filing a complaint. A video recorded by the siblings prior to the incident later surfaced on social media.In the video, the woman claimed that she had approached Gomtipur police with a complaint of harassment, but alleged that it was not formally registered. She further alleged molestation by the neighbour and claimed her brother had been assaulted, but no action was taken. The siblings stated that they had been under severe stress for several days and were unable to return home. Appealing for intervention, they said they were taking the extreme step consciously.Soon after recording the video, the two consumed a liquid on the roadside. Passers-by alerted the police and emergency services, following which the siblings were rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Civil Hospital. Their condition was reported to be stable.Police, however, refuted claims of inaction. An official from Gomtipur police station said that upon receiving initial information, a team was sent to the hospital to record the complaint. According to police, the siblings left the hospital after preliminary treatment and could not be contacted as their phones were switched off. Officials said a complaint has now been registered based on the available details.An investigation was initiated to ascertain the facts and verify the sequence of events leading to the incident.
