Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged all organisations and business establishments in Bengaluru to grant paid leave to workers from Bihar so that they can return home to vote in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Emphasising the importance of democratic participation, he appealed to companies, contractors, hotels, builders, shopkeepers, and other employers to provide at least three days of paid leave to Bihari residents employed in the city and across the state.
Shivakumar said, “A large number of people from Bihar are working in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka. I request all employers to cooperate and allow them the opportunity to exercise their democratic right.”
He further appealed to them to cooperate in ensuring active participation in the democratic process.
Bihar elections
The Bihar State General Election will take place in two phases – the first on 6 November and the second on 11 November 2025 – to elect all 243 members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes and announcement of results are scheduled for 14 November.
According to the Election Commission, around 7.43 crore voters will take part, casting their votes across more than 90,000 polling booths. To ensure transparency and security, one general observer has been appointed per constituency, and webcasting will be conducted at every polling station.
The electoral contest is expected to be closely fought between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by JD(U) and the BJP, and the Mahagathbandhan alliance comprising the RJD and Congress.
Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar seeks a record tenth term, while Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD leads the opposition charge, promising a fresh vision for Bihar’s youth and development.
Political strategist Prashant Kishor’s new outfit, Jan Suraaj, is contesting all seats, potentially altering traditional voting patterns and alliances.
