Shimla: The Shimla Police have launched an investigation following a complaint about a private university student and Bangladesh native allegedly wandering the city temples in disguise of a transgender. A local complainant claimed that the individual, who identifies as a Bangladeshi Muslim on Instagram, visited Kalibari Temple and was collecting money from people in Lower Bazaar and Middle Bazaar while wearing a saree.Police have identified the man as Islam Mohammad Shahidul, 30, a journalism student at a private university in Shimla, originally from Rajshahi in Bangladesh. During questioning, Shahidul stated that he belongs to the transgender community and worships Goddess Kali. He admitted visiting Kalibari and Jalkhu temples and markets during religious events, including Navratri, but denied forcibly taking money from anyone, saying he only accepts voluntary contributions.The police verified his documents, including passports, visa, national identity, and academic records, and found them valid.
