Surat: Around 40 diamond manufacturers participated in a meeting at Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) on Friday, where medium-sized units unanimously decided to begin operations from the complex.Manufacturers assured SDB management that they would soon start furnishing their offices and commence business. Industry sources said the shift gained momentum after leading diamond traders set up offices at SDB, ensuring better access to buyers at a single location.Earlier, manufacturers showcased cut and polished diamonds in Mahidharpura and Mini Bazaar markets. With key traders moving to SDB, buyers are now increasingly available within the bourse, encouraging others to follow suit.Meanwhile, rough diamond traders are scheduled to hold a meeting at SDB on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of starting operations there. Around 50 traders are expected to participate. In addition, nearly 125 coloured diamond traders are preparing to shift to SDB and are in the process of setting up their offices.“At present, around 125 offices are operational in SDB, and new ones are opening daily. There is growing momentum among stakeholders, and the bourse is expected to become fully functional soon,” said Lalji Patel, vice-chairman of the SDB committee.Industry leaders are aiming to bring nearly 1,000 diamond businesses under one roof at SDB, consolidating operations currently scattered across the city. They believe this will further attract traders and brokers to the bourse.
