Kanpur: The demand for gujhiya has surged in the city markets as the festival of colours approaches near. A wide variety of gujhiyas have been introduced to attract customers. The most talked-about is the ‘shahi gujhiya’ wrapped in 24-carat gold warq, priced at Rs 31,000 per kg and Rs 750 per piece. The extravagant shahi gujhiya, being sold by Pahalwan Ji Sweet and Namkeen, has become a major attraction of the markets. The shop owner said that apart from the gold-warq rapped variant, they are also offering silver warq-gujhiya priced at Rs 2,100 per kg. Both the premium varieties are being prepared on specific customer demand.Similarly, many other varieties are available like fig (anjeer), kesar and traditional gujhiyas. Other city shops and even bakeries are offering a wide variety of this traditional sweet like dry fruits, chocolate and baked gujhiyas.
