T’puram: The SFI students protested at Kerala University vice-chancellor’s (VC) office, demanding permission for the current union to organize this year’s university youth festival and allocation of the grant amount of Rs 50 lakh in the budget. Staff were unable to leave as the room was locked. The VC was not present in the office. The SFI’s demand was to allow the grant for the current union to organize this year’s youth festival, as the grant was given to the previous union for the festival last April. However, the VC refused to agree. The VC Mohanan Kunnummal ordered that the new union elections be held this month and that the new office-bearers should organize the youth festival. There was a complaint that the mementos displayed in the VC’s room were damaged. The VC instructed the registrar to investigate the security lapse at the university and provide an urgent report. After three hours of blockade, police removed the students.
