Panaji: Cybercrime police station conducted a late night raid on Friday night going into the early hours of Saturday and arrested seven persons for a cyberfraud.In the raid carried out from 11.30pm on Friday to 4am on Saturday at the rented bungalow at Khorlim, Mapusa, and on a call centre, the police seized laptops, mobile phones and other digital items all worth approximately Rs 21 lakh.The accused were found impersonating loan company agents under the name ‘Payday’, cheating US citizens by inducing them to pay large sums in the form of gift cards under the pretext of providing loans and instant money.The arrested accused are Laxmandra Kaushik from Thane, Sourabh Vikas Ghodke from Raigarh, Pravesh Namdeo Sawant from Mumbai, Nisarg Chetankumar Thakkar from Ahmedabad, Rajas Ramesh Bhagat from Mumbai, Avinash Pradeep Verma from Uttar Pradesh and Harsh Dilip Barut from Ahmedabad.The accused have been remanded in police custody and further investigation is on. The raid was carried out by PSI Sherwin Dacosta, PSI Mandar Gaonkar and others from cybercrime police station.
