Udupi: A scooter rider died after a pickup vehicle ran over him in a road accident reported at Shivalli village on Thursday.The deceased was identified as Gopala Moolya,71. Police said that a two-wheeler rider rode his vehicle recklessly on National Highway-169A near a diversion from Udupi towards Manipal. He collided with Moolya’s scooter as Moolya turned onto the Manipal-Udupi road after signalling at the diversion. As a result, Moolya fell onto the road with his scooter.At the same time, a pick-up vehicle, allegedly driven negligently by a person named Devi Prasad from Udupi towards Manipal, ran over him, causing severe injuries to his head, chest, and limbs. Moolya was taken to Udupi District Govt Hospital for treatment, where the medical officer declared him dead.According to the complaint, the accident was caused by the reckless and negligent driving of the unidentified two-wheeler rider, who fled the scene, and the pickup vehicle driver. A case was registered at Udupi traffic police station under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the BNS, and Sections 134(a)(b) along with 187 of the IMV Act.
