Varanasi: The regional Saras fair began under the aegis of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihood Mission at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University on Friday. District panchayat president, Poonam Maurya, and district magistrate, Satyendra Kumar, inaugurated the fair.Over 100 stalls from Telangana, Haryana, Odisha, among others, featuring silk sarees, carperts and food items, are set up at the fair. Speaking at the event, Maurya called upon the women to join the Prime Minister’s ambitious Lakhpati programme. The district magistrate said that in UP, over one crore families are engaged in livelihood activities. In Varanasi, 1.47 lakh women have joined under the Livelihood Mission.The fair is open till March 20. tnn
