Kalaburagi: Sanitary pads worth thousands of rupees, meant for distribution to girl students in educational institutions under the Shuchi Yojana programme, were found burnt at an old building near the Farhatabad primary health centre on the outskirts of Kalaburagi city on Sunday. It is alleged that instead of distributing the sanitary pads to the eligible beneficiaries in schools and colleges, health department officials had stored them in the dilapidated building. The sanitary pads in bulk were found during the demolition of the building near the health centre on Saturday evening. Local residents, who expressed their strong disapproval over the incident, are demanding accountability from the officials for the failure in distributing the sanitary supplies. Village authorities noted that the officials failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their actions. The footage of the incident has gained widespread attention across social media platforms.Speaking to TOI, district health officer (DHO) Sharanabasappa Kyatanal said he has ordered a thorough inquiry into the burning of sanitary napkins and requested a report within 24 hours. “The taluk health officer and hospital medical officer have been notified,” he said.
