Jaipur: Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has finalised two companies to procure e-buses for the corporation after multiple attempts. The corporation could not assign the tender due to poor response in the past two years. Now the corporation will write to the state govt for financial approval, after which the letter of intent will be issued. “Two companies have been shortlisted in the tender process, and a total of 300 buses will be procured. One company will supply 246 buses, while the remaining ones will be provided by the other,” said a senior official. Officials added that the operational cost per kilometre for these buses is projected to be Rs 34. “We will send a proposal now to the finance department for approval. Upon receiving clearance from them, the corporation will issue the letter of intent (LOI) for these buses. The new buses are likely to be deployed on routes to the national capital region, along with distribution among all depots of the state,” added the official. To procure e-buses, RSRTC first invited tenders in Dec 2024 and multiple times thereafter, but the tenders were not finalised. Officials added that the tender for 300 buses is two-fold: one with the infrastructure for charging the buses and the second without charging infrastructure. The corporation aims to procure a total of 900 EVs, which will replace the existing diesel-based fleet used for these routes. By the end of this year, the corporation is planning to replace all its 900 buses currently plying on the Delhi-NCR routes with EV buses complying with the guidelines of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
