Lucknow: On the lines of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), a residential set-up for girls belonging to economically and socially weaker sections, the state govt for the first time decided to set up residential girls’ schools in educationally backward blocks (EBBs) that do not have a KGBV. For this, govt made a budgetary allocation of Rs 580 crore.UP has 746 KGBVs that provide quality education and safe boarding from class six. So far, 311 KGBVs were upgraded to class 12 and the remaining are being done in a phased manner. The proposal to set up residential girls’ schools is for 140 EBBs that do not have a KGBV. “The idea is to improve access to education and enhance female literacy,” said a departmental officer.
Bagging the lion’s share, govt earmarked Rs 80,997 crore for primary education. The govt will establish two CM Model Composite Schools in every district, making it 150 across 75 districts. These schools will be equipped with modern facilities, digital classrooms and advanced academic resources.Govt allocated Rs 358 crore for a cashless medical facility for teaching and non-teaching staff, including those employed on a contractual as well as honorarium basis in state-run schools. Govt also allocated Rs 300 crore to develop all primary schools as smart schools, leveraging digital technology.Basic education minister Sandeep Singh said, “The budget is not just a financial allocation, but a clear commitment to deliver quality, equal, and value-based education to every child. Govt is committed to ensuring social justice and equal opportunity through education.”* Rs 650 crore was allocated for uniforms, school bags, shoes-socks, and stationery.* Rs 300 crore was allocated for the maintenance and strengthening of aided non-govt schools found to be substandard after security audits.
