Gurgaon: The families of the victims of a wall collapse at the Signature Global project site in Sidhrawali on Monday will receive around Rs 40 lakh in compensation each. The company — Signature Global (India) Limited — has also assured a job to one member of each victim’s family. Seven labourers had died in the collapse while excavating soil for a sewage treatment plant (STP).Out of this Rs 40 lakh, Signature Global will pay Rs 20 lakh and the remaining amount will be paid by Haryana govt. Out of the five injured, the company will give Rs 1 lakh each to two labourers who are seriously injured and Rs 50,000 to three who have received minor injuries besides treatment expenses.A senior Gurgaon administrative officer said that the state govt will pay Rs 19 lakh to the families of the deceased, including Rs 4 lakh by the labour department. “Each family was also paid Rs 20,000 for the travel and transport cost to reach back to Jharkhand,” a senior administrative officer said.Signature Global group president (operations) Varun Mehta wrote in his letter to the family of Satish Kumar, one of the victims, “In accordance with the company’s policy regarding compassionate employment, the company decided to offer one employment opportunity to an eligible member of the deceased’s family. The said employment shall be provided subject to the qualification, eligibility and suitability of the nominated family member, in accordance with the applicable company rules and policies.” Minister of state for defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth came to Gurgaon to meet the families of the deceased and held a meeting with Gurgaon deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar, police commissioner Vikas Arora and company officials. Seth told TOI that after reaching Gurgaon on Wednesday evening, he met the families and assured them all possible support. “I held a meeting with the Gurgaon deputy commissioner, commissioner of police, labour commissioner. All the victim families have been promised over Rs 39 lakh compensation each while jobs to any single member of each family were offered by the company. I am grateful to the Haryana chief minister that he immediately took the required steps after I contacted him over the phone,” Seth said.
