Daltonganj: A static surveillance team of the police seized Rs 40.2 lakh in cash from a car during a vehicle checking drive in Latehar district on Wednesday evening. “The seizure was made from Karkat location on NH 75, under Latehar police station limits,” Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said. The seizure was made amid the model code of conduct (MCC), which is in effect for the Feb 23 civic body polls in Jharkhand.As the cash was above Rs 10 lakh, the income tax department was informed about the detection in the possession of the occupants of the car, police said. “We have not detained anyone. Income tax officials are probing the source of money and other aspects,” Gaurav said. The occupants of the car were travelling from Daltonganj to Latehar.The occupant of the car needs to prove the source of the cash and its legality to reclaim it back. Administrative sources said such a detection of cash during the period of the model code of conduct is to be disposed of in a maximum of two weeks from the date of the detection.Meanwhile, two nominations for the mayoral post of the Medininagar Municipal Corporation in Palamu district were rejected on scrutiny on Thursday. A total of 13 women candidates had filed nominations for the post, which is reserved for women. Officials said that the nominations were rejected because they were below 30 years of age. For the post of mayor, age eligibility is minimum 30 years.
