Hyderabad: Powering its growth story with a green push, Telangana is stepping up investments in renewable energy and reliable supply, positioning the sector as a key driver of its development agenda.In a major move, the govt will set up a 1,500 MWh battery energy storage system at Maheshwaram and Choutuppal. It also highlighted that investments worth ₹95,150 crore were attracted through TG Genco at the Telangana Rising Global Summit for 11,460 MW of pumped storage and other projects.Friday’s budget allocated ₹21,285 crore to the power sector, including about ₹14,000 crore towards power subsidy for agriculture and ₹2,080 crore for the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides up to 200 units of free power a month to eligible households. Around 53 lakh families are benefiting from the scheme.“Telangana is at the forefront of the renewable energy sector. Our goal is to move forward in harmony with nature. Beyond solar projects, solar villages, and rooftop expansion, we are taking steps under the PM KUSUM scheme to transform farmers from mere consumers of electricity into producers of electricity. This initiative positions farmers not only as cultivators but also partners in the energy sector,” finance minister Bhatti Vikramarka said in his budget speech.24/7 power supply: BhattiHe said the state continues to provide uninterrupted and quality power, with installed capacity now at 23,187 MW, a significant share coming from renewables. Peak demand has crossed 18,000 MW, while per capita consumption stands at 2,508 units—well above the national average. “Telangana’s development pace is clearly reflected in this growth,” Bhatti added.The govt is also modernising the power network with real-time feeder monitoring and plans to expand underground cabling in Hyderabad. With 1,036 EV charging stations already in place, it is now pushing for wider adoption of green mobility, particularly across CURE areas.
