Jalandhar: Police here have booked a husband–wife duo who had alleged that Rs 19.1 lakh were snatched from them in Jalandhar after a probe revealed that the “snatchers” had been hired by the couple to stage a robbery and claim insurance money.Jalandhar resident Priya and her husband, Ramanand, had on Friday alleged that two motorcyclists had snatched the bag containing the money from Priya outside HDFC Bank branch in Urban Estate Phase 2 of Jalandhar.
Priya had alleged that her husband was parking the car when two youths came on a motorcycle and pricked her hands with a sharp object. They instantly snatched the bag with the money and fled.The woman said they ran an artificial jewellery shop. She said that in the morning, she and her husband withdrew Rs 17.1 lakh in cash from a bank near Football Chowk and added another Rs 2 lakh from home as they needed to give the cash to someone.Jalandhar ADCP-2 Harinder Singh Gill said police arrested Bhima and Abhi, both hailing from UP, in connection with the case. When they were questioned, they spilled the beans, stating that they were hired by Priya and Ramanand to claim insurance money, and they were paid Rs 7,000 for enacting the drama of loot, Gill said.It came out that they snatched the empty bag and threw it on the way. ADCP Gill said the couple was named in the FIR and they would also be arrested.
