THANE: A Lok Adalat in Thane on Sunday awarded Rs 1 crore in compensation to the family of Anand Rajan Nadar, an assistant security manager who died in a road accident last year, a court official said. Principal District Judge SB Agrawal handed over the cheque to the claimants on Saturday, marking the settlement of the motor accident claim. The accident occurred on September 25, 2024, when Nadar was travelling by motorcycle from his residence in Thane city to his workplace in Padgha, Bhiwandi. A speeding tempo emerging from a petrol pump collided with his motorcycle, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to a hospital in Bhiwandi, where he was declared dead. Nadar had joined the company as an assistant security manager in April 2024, earning an annual salary of Rs 11 lakh. Following his death, his wife and parents filed a claim at the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal against the tempo owner and its insurer. The Lok Adalat facilitated an amicable settlement between the parties, with the tempo insurer agreeing to the compensation, the counsels of both sides confirmed. Lok Adalats are an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, aimed at providing fast and cost-effective settlements for cases pending in courts or at the pre-litigation stage through conciliation and compromise.(With PTI inputs)
