Ahmedabad: Amid growing controversy, Gujarat University (GU) will conduct recruitment examinations for 130 administrative posts, including that of senior and junior clerks, from Saturday, with more than 8,000 candidates expected to appear. The process, however, has drawn protests and allegations from student groups over recruitment norms. On Friday, members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest outside the university campus, opposing the administration’s decision not to grant age relaxation to women candidates from reserved categories. Protesters claimed they were prevented from entering the campus when they tried to submit a representation to the university authorities.According to NSUI members, the university officials closed campus gates citing examination preparations and declared a holiday to avoid demonstrations. They alleged that despite the vice-chancellor being present in the office, the protestors were not allowed to meet officials or present their concerns. The student organisation also questioned the decision to proceed with the recruitment process, alleging that approval from the state govt was still pending. They further claimed that the examination process had been quietly outsourced to an external agency to favour certain candidates and warned of intensified protests if the issue remains unresolved. The recruitment examination will be held over two days. On Saturday, tests for posts with fewer applicants will be conducted, while examinations for senior and junior clerk posts will be held on Sunday at several affiliated colleges instead of the university campus.
