Rohtak: Direct connectivity between Rohtak and Delhi has been disrupted after the district administration closed a crucial cut on the national highway near Kharawad village of the district.Large stones have been placed at the crossing, forcing commuters to take a detour of nearly 4 kilometres to reach Rohtak.Local MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra on Wednesday objected to the move and wrote to deputy commissioner Sachin Gupta, urging immediate reconsideration. He stated that the closure had caused significant inconvenience to the public, particularly daily commuters travelling between Delhi and Rohtak.Batra pointed out that the cut had been in use for the last 12 years, providing a direct route for vehicles coming from Delhi towards Rohtak. With its closure, commuters are now forced to divert towards Jhajjar road and travel an additional distance, leading to delays and increased fuel expenses, he said. The MLA argued that if the administration feared accidents at the spot, alternative safety measures should be implemented instead of blocking the route entirely. He stressed that road accidents were primarily caused by encroachments on the green belt, narrow road width, and overspeeding, and not the existence of the cut itself. In his letter, Batra put forward five key demands, including reopening the cut by removing barricades, deploying traffic police and PCR teams round-the-clock, installing speed breakers near key points, enforcing speed limits of 30 km/h for heavy vehicles and 40 km/h for light vehicles, and convening a joint meeting of the NHAI, PWD and town planning officials to develop a permanent solution such as a roundabout. The closure has also impacted nearby farmers, who now have to travel longer distances to access their fields. Additionally, traffic diversion is likely to increase congestion on the Jhajjar road, raising concerns about potential jams and longer travel time for commuters.MSID:: 129954719 413 |
