Bengaluru: A 41-year-old businessman has been arrested on charges of assaulting a 65-year-old man in a case of road rage at Kengeri. The accused, B Naveen of RR Layout in Nagadevanahalli, was also arrested in a 2024 murder case, which is in the courts now.The victim, Nanjundappa, was walking near Naveen’s residence around 5.30pm on Sunday. Naveen, who was driving his hatchback, grew irritated on seeing Nanjundappa walking near his parking space outside the house. However, Nanjundappa was unaware that Naveen was coming to park the car there.CCTV footage obtained from nearby houses shows how Naveen honked continuously at Nanjundappa. Reacting to the continuous honking, Nanjundappa indicated that Naveen could drive freely as the entire road was empty. Nanjundappa also asked him, “Why are you honking when I am in the extreme left lane and not blocking your car in any manner?”Losing his temper, Naveen stormed out of his car, abused Nanjundappa loudly, and attacked him. Naveen’s family members, including two women, came out on hearing Nanjundappa’s screams for help. They tried to stop Naveen, but in vain. At one stage, Naveen pushed Nanjundappa down and attacked him by sitting on his chest. By then, neighbours, passersby, and other commuters gathered at the spot and pulled Naveen aside. His family pushed him inside the house. After getting treatment at a local hospital, Nanjundappa filed a complaint with Kengeri police, who immediately arrested Naveen and produced him in court Monday. He is now in judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison.
