Chennai: Four people, including a Class VII student and a software engineer, were killed in separate road accidents in Chennai and Tiruvallur districts on Friday.In the first incident, Yashwanth, 13, a Class VII student at a govt-aided school in Tiruvallur, was triple-riding with two college students — Rajpriyan, 19, and Rishi, 18, from Avadi — on a motorcycle when a lorry coming from behind hit the motorcycle near the new flyover on the Chennai-Tirupathi National Highway bypass at Eekadu. All three were thrown off the vehicle and were rushed to Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital. While Yashwanth died at the hospital, the other two are undergoing treatment.In the second incident, Mohana, 22, a software engineer from Kamarajar Nagar near Nandhivaram Guduvanchery, was travelling from Guduvanchery to Perungalathur on a motorcycle with her friend, Mohan Kumar, when the bike collided with a private company bus. Both fell on the road, and Mohana was run over by the bus. She died instantly. Mohan Kumar was rescued and sent to a nearby private hospital. The Tambaram traffic investigation police arrested the bus driver, John Draik, 60, of New Perungalathur.In the third incident, Kamesh, 26, of Sevvapet near Tiruvallur, was driving his car towards Sevvapet on the Chennai-Tirupathi Outer Ring Road opposite Kakkalur SIDCO on Friday night when a lorry coming from the opposite direction hit his car head-on. Kamesh died on the spot. The Tiruvallur taluk police seized the body and sent it to Tiruvallur govt hospital for postmortem.In the fourth incident, Palaniswami, 70, of Indira Gandhi Street, Kollachery, near Kundrathur, was crossing the road at the four-way junction in Kollachery on Friday afternoon when a goods vehicle coming from the wrong direction hit him. He was thrown out and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to Tambaram Government Hospital, where he died without treatment. A case was registered, and the driver of the goods vehicle, Mathiyazhagan, 49, of Anna Nagar, Trichy, was arrested.
