Ahmedabad: Fraudsters posing as credit card executives allegedly duped a city trader of Rs 1.8 lakh after promising to help him redeem reward points on his credit card. A complaint in the case was registered with Kalupur police on Tuesday.According to the FIR, the trader, who runs a textile company near Kalupur railway station, received a call on June 10 from a woman claiming to be from a private bank’s credit card department. She told him that his credit card had accumulated 4,000 reward points and offered to help him redeem them through an online process.Convinced, the trader shared photographs of his PAN card and credit card on WhatsApp chat. The caller then sent him a link and instructed him to fill in his name, mobile number, email address, date of birth, address, Aadhaar number, PAN details, credit card number and the available credit limit.After he submitted the form and entered a one-time password (OTP), his mobile phone briefly froze. Moments later, he received two SMS alerts stating that transactions of Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 34,999 had been made using his credit card.The trader immediately contacted the bank’s customer care and got the credit card blocked. He also reported the fraud on the national cybercrime helpline before approaching police.As the trader was away in Pune for work, the complaint was lodged by his nephew. Kalupur police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the caller and the money trail.
