The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 board examinations for 2026 concluded on March 11, leaving over 22 lakh students across the country waiting for the next big milestone — the CBSE Class 10 result 2026.
ET Education has learnt from teachers involved in the evaluation process that paper checking is already underway across several CBSE regions. According to teachers assigned evaluation duties, checking for multiple subjects began last week, and in some centres the process has already been completed for certain papers.
For the remaining subjects, evaluation is expected to conclude by the end of next week across most regions, suggesting the board is moving at a relatively fast pace this year.
Based on previous result timelines and the current progress of evaluation, the CBSE Class 10 Result 2026 is expected around May 11, 2026 — possibly earlier.
However, for the first time in CBSE’s history, the result date is not the only date students will be watching closely. Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the board has introduced a two-exam system for Class 10, meaning students will also have the option to appear for a second board exam later this year.
When Will CBSE Class 10 Result 2026 Be Declared?
Going by previous years’ trends, CBSE typically declares the Class 10 results within 50–60 days after the final examination.
2025: Exams ended March 18, result declared May 13
2024: Exams ended March 13, result declared May 13
With the 2026 exam cycle ending on March 11, the result is expected on or around May 11.
Once declared, students will be able to check their results on:

Students React After the Final Paper
For many students, relief after finishing the last exam has quickly given way to curiosity about their scores and the possibility of using the new improvement option.
“I just want to see my score now,” said Aryan Mehta, a Class 10 student from Noida. “Maths was okay but Science was tough. I’m hoping for around 85. If it’s lower, I might try again in May.”
In Gurugram, Priya Sharma said the two-exam option slightly reduced stress during preparation. “Knowing there is another chance made things a little less stressful earlier, but now I’m wondering how the timeline will work with school admissions,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mohit Singh, a student from Delhi’s Rohini area, is already planning strategically. “If I get around 89 or 90 in Social Science, I’ll definitely appear in Phase 2 to improve my score,” he said.
What Is the CBSE Two-Exam System?
In June 2025, CBSE announced that two board exams per year would be implemented for Class 10 starting the 2025-26 academic session, in line with recommendations under NEP 2020.
The aim is to reduce the pressure of a single high-stakes exam and allow students an opportunity to improve their scores.
How the system works
Phase 1 (February–March)
The main board examination. All Class 10 students must appear in this exam.
Phase 2 (May–June)
An optional attempt that allows students to improve their performance in up to three subjects.
The higher score from either phase will be reflected in the final marksheet, meaning students will not lose marks if their second attempt does not lead to improvement.
Who Can Appear for the Phase 2 Exam?
CBSE has broadly classified eligibility into three categories:
Improvement category
Students who pass Phase 1 can appear again in up to three subjects — including Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and languages.
Compartment category
Students who receive a compartment result in Phase 1.
Essential Repeat category
Students who were absent in three or more subjects must reappear in the main examination next year and are not eligible for Phase 2.
Subjects where a majority of the marks come from the external written examination are expected to be eligible for improvement.
Teachers Say Students Still Need More Clarity
Teachers say the concept of a second attempt is being welcomed, but students still have questions about how the system will work in practice.
A Class 10 Science teacher from a government-aided school in Delhi, who has been teaching for more than a decade and is currently involved in the evaluation process, said many students are still unsure about the rules.
“Students keep asking whether appearing in Phase 2 will affect their marks if they score lower. We explain that the higher score will be considered, but the board will need to communicate this more clearly to students,” she said on condition of anonymity.
A mathematics teacher from a CBSE-affiliated school in Lucknow pointed out another concern related to admissions.
“Many schools begin Class 11 admissions in May. If the final marksheet is issued only after Phase 2 results, schools may initially admit students based on Phase 1 scores,” S.P. Prasad said.
According to him, the system is likely to stabilise once schools and students become familiar with the new schedule.

What the Change Means for Students
The 2026 batch will be the first to experience CBSE’s two-exam system, marking a significant shift in how board examinations are structured.
If implemented effectively, the model could allow students to improve scores without waiting an entire year, potentially reducing the pressure traditionally associated with a single board examination attempt.
