The District Magistrate Baramulla has imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 in village Mirgund and Mirchimar of Tehsil Singhpora in Sub-Division Pattan to prevent any law and order issues.
According to an official order, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla reported a long-standing dispute between rival factions of the Shia community regarding the observance of religious functions and jurisdiction over Imam Bargah and Masjid Mirchimar in Mirgund.
The police also informed that there was apprehension that unlawful organisations might take part in congregations and activities linked to them, including the proposed procession. Considering the ground situation and the history of confrontation between the factions, the SSP recommended imposition of restrictions in the area.
Acting on the recommendation, the District Magistrate ordered that restrictions under Section 163 BNSS shall remain in force in Mirgund, Mirchimar and adjoining areas of Tehsil Singhpora from 8:00 PM on March 10, 2026 to 9:30 PM on March 11, 2026, coinciding with the 21st of Ramzan, as a preventive measure to maintain peace and safeguard life and property.
The order states that no assembly or congregation of four or more persons will be allowed, and no procession shall be permitted in the affected villages during the period of restrictions.
It also prohibits any person, except authorised security personnel or officials on duty, from carrying firearms or any weapon in public. Additionally, the use of loudspeakers or other sound amplifying devices for speeches or announcements has been barred.
The authorities said the restrictions have been imposed to maintain peace and tranquility and to prevent any potential law and order problem in the area.
