Shimla: The Shimla district police on Tuesday claimed to have sent a repeat drug offender under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act to the district correctional home, Kaithu, for three months.On Monday, a team from police station Nankhari detained Prem Raj alias I D Mehta alias Santosh Mehta from Jagot village in Nankhari tehsil in compliance with the govt’s detention order.The accused was previously arrested four times under the NDPS Act, 1985. He was convicted in two cases involving recovery of 300 grams and 107 grams of charas, respectively, while two other cases involving 9.93 grams of charas and 18.59 grams of heroin are pending in court, said the police.They said the action was taken to protect public health and curb repeated drug trafficking. Over the last month, Shimla police detained 24 habitual drug traffickers under similar orders, reaffirming their zero-tolerance stance against narcotics.MSID:: 128966447 413 |
