Chennai: Nearly a year after its renovation, the Guindy Children’s Park has emerged a major attraction in Chennai, drawing more than 9.5 lakh visitors and generating 4.5 crore in revenue between Aug last year and June this year. This marks an all-time high revenue earned by the park in the past decade.State forest secretary Supriya Sahu said newly created fountains, selfie points, redesigned animal enclosures, the park’s massive aviary housing several types of migratory birds, paver block walkways for comfortable walking, and a new library with books on wildlife are among the additions contributing to the surge in footfalls.The average monthly footfall now stands at more than 86,000 compared to 67,500 earlier. With the visitor count rising steadily, the parking area has been reorganized and expanded to improve convenience and traffic flow.Animal welfare has also been enhanced through redesigned enclosures offering enriched habitats that promote the well-being of resident species while providing visitors with better visibility and interaction.The park’s wildlife collection has been broadened to offer a more diverse and educational experience.Barking deer, porcupine, jungle cat, and mouse deer from Arignar Anna zoo were recently added to the children’s park, offering a more diverse and educational experience for the visitors. The aviary was expanded five-fold to accommodate a wider variety of migratory birds. The terrarium and serpentarium were also revamped. Accessibility within the park has also been improved with old pavements replaced by paver block walkways, ensuring smoother and safer movement in all zones. The introduction of two themed cafés has further upgraded leisure amenities.The renovated park has become a dynamic space where learning, leisure, and nature seamlessly converge, making it an inspiring destination for families, students, and visitors from various walks of life, said Supriya Sahu.
