Hyderabad: The medical fraternity in Telangana has raised concerns over the recruitment process being followed by the medical and health services recruitment board (MHSRB), alleging poor planning in filling specialist and teaching posts.Doctors pointed out that the notification for assistant professor posts in the directorate of medical education (DME) — issued on June 28, 2025 — was released earlier than the civil assistant surgeon (specialist) (CASS) posts under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) — issued on Aug 22, 2025.However, they claimed that the govt is now moving ahead with the TVVP recruitment first. This, the experts termed as an adverse move, as most aspirants prefer assistant professor posts in govt medical colleges, and if TVVP recruitment is completed earlier, candidates may initially join specialist posts and later resign if they secure DME positions. They warned that such a situation could lead to vacant specialist posts again in TVVP hospitals, which already face a shortage of doctors. With govt medical colleges struggling with a significant shortage of teaching faculty, they added that it could also affect medical education and training.Members of the medical fraternity have urged the govt to first complete the assistant professor recruitment under DME and then proceed with the TVVP specialist recruitment, stating that this would prevent unnecessary resignations, ensure better utilisation of manpower, and strengthen both healthcare services and medical education in the state.A senior official from the DME office said, “The decision taken by MHSRB is to complete assistant professor recruitment first and then complete the CASS recruitment. Assistant professor certificate verification will be taken up in the last week of March, and selections will be completed by the 1st week of April. Thereafter, the CASS selection list will be released.”
